Hawaiian Airlines has announced more details of what it says is a "plan to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050".
The statement includes what the carrier described as "commitments to significant progress in the 2030s", which it added would depend on "several key drivers".
Listing the likes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), fleet modernisation and "operational best practices to improve fuel efficiency, and advocacy for air traffic control system improvements" in its list of drivers, Hawaiian said SAF would likely be the most important.
The carrier then listed several related commitments it made, including to lower life-cycle jet fuel emissions intensity per revenue ton mile by 45% (from 2019 levels) by 2035, replace 10% of conventional jet fuel with SAF by 2030, improve fuel efficiency per available seat mile by 4% (from 2019) by 2028 and conserve 3 million gallons of jet fuel through operational initiatives by 2028.
