Hawaiian Airlines received its first of 10 Airbus A330 freighters that will be used for cargo flights for Amazon. The first freighter arrived in Honolulu this month and will enter service in October after familiarization flights.

The airline will receive 10 of A330-300P2F freighters over the next 18 months as part of an agreement with Amazon Prime Air.

Speaking during the earnings call earlier this week, Peter Ingram, chief executive, Hawaaiian said: “"Earlier this month, the first A330-300 freighter that we will operate for Amazon arrived in Honolulu. Over the next few months, we’ll use the aircraft for employee familiarization work. This is the first of 10-freighter aircraft we will be inducting over the course of the next 1.5 years providing us a new and diversified stream of revenue that will begin to ramp more materially in 2024."

Hawaiian announced its agreement with Amazon Air in October 2022, with Hawaiian operating 10 freighters on behalf Amazon for the next eight years, with the option to extend for another two or three years, as well as the possibility of adding more freighters. Amazon will acquire all 10 passenger-to-freighter A330s on lease from Altavair, which are being converted by Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW).
