Hawaiian Airlines first in on-time performance

Hawaiian Airlines has continued its on-time performance streak in 2013, leading all US carriers in punctuality for the 10th consecutive year as reported today by the US Department of Transportation (DOT).

Hawaii's airline averaged a 93.3% on-time performance ranking for the full year 2013, earning the top ranking in 11 of the 12 months and exceeding the industry average for the year by 15 percentage points. For the month of December, Hawaiian Airlines recorded a 92.4% on-time performance to lead the industry.

At the bottom of the table, and in three of the last four months of 2013, Southwest finished last among US airlines in on-time arrivals. The worst month was December when only 57.7% of Southwest’s flights arrived on time or within 14 minutes of schedule in December. That was 11.2 percentage points below the industry average of 68.9%.

The industry as a whole saw 78.3% of its flights arrive on time in 2013, off 3.6 points from 2012 and its worst record since 2008.

American Airlines showed a year-over-year improvement, up 1.2 points with 78.1% of its flights arrive on time. United Airlines on-timer performance was also up, this time by 1.9 points to 79.3%.

Delta Air Lines dropped two points, but with 84.5% it still led other large US carriers.
