Greater Bay Airlines are about to place an order of 15 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, as per Bloomberg. Boeing claims that the Boeing 737-9 come with an exceptional efficiency, 20% lower fuel burn and an equivalent reduction in carbon emissions helping the airline to reduce cost and enable them to operate with high profit margins.
The airplanes are worth an estimated $52.3 million each, bringing the total cost of the order to roughly $785 million at published prices. If the order goes ahead, the 200-seat aircraft will be delivered to the airline over the next several years, with the first deliveries beginning in mid-2024.
The airline was initially thought to be deciding between MAX and A320s, but as the airline already operate B737s, opting for Boeing jets was the obvious choice. According to sources, the airline was initially going to place order for Max 10, but with the certification delays the airline is likely to select Max 9 for its future fleet.
With the new aircraft the airline plans to expand its operations in the next decade. The airline currently operates a fleet of Boeing 737s t four Asian destinations from Hong Kong International Airport.
Going ahead, the airline is planning to expand its network with the addition of new aircraft.
