A start-up Chinese-backed airline has applied to Hong Kong’s Civil Aviation Authority for an air operators’ certificate, according to a report in the South China Morning Post.
Greater Bay Airlines put its AOC application into the HKCAA last month according to the SCMP which said it could take up to two years for the new carrier to gain approval to start operations.
Greater Bay Airlines is backed by Chinese businessman Bill Wong Cho-bau, who already runs Shenzhen-based Donghai Airlines.
Wong’s latest venture is focussing on an LCC model with a schedule tilted towards China, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia, the SCMP reported.
Greater Bay Airlines intended to fly Boeing 737 aircraft. Currently Donghai uses 23 737s and has ordered 25 737 MAX aircraft.
