Grands Espaces reserves Airlander 10 for Arctic travel
Grands Espaces has entered into an aircraft reservation agreement with Hybrid Air Vehicles, designer and developer of the Airlander aircraft, to utilise the Airlander 10 hybrid aircraft for tourism plans around the world including travel to the Arctic. The French eco-tourism company, founded by Arctic scientist and company CEO Christian Kempf, intends to deploy the Airlander 10 into ‘new and less-explored regions’. “Grands Escapes has been a pioneer in polar exploration cruises aboard small boats. For over 25 years, our travellers have been exploring remote and fragile regions with us,” explained Kempf, who intends to harness the opportunities offered by the Airlander 10’s ability to take off and land from any reasonably flat surface (including water and ice) and its minimal requirement for fixed infrastructure. “Airlander is an aircraft that brings great possibilities to the world of travel and tourism… without the negative effects legacy aircraft have on the planet,” commented Hybrid Air Vehicles executive director of sales George Land. “Through this reservation agreement Hybrid Air Vehicles and Grand Escapes are rethinking what is possible for a low-impact, low-carbon tourism industry”.
