US-China container bookings have rebounded in the wake of the US-China trade deal that paused tariffs, according to a HSBC report.
The Shanghai containerised freight index (SCFI) soared 10% week-on-week with transpacific rates to the US west coast and east coast up 22-23% during the week ending May 16, 2025, compared to the week prior.
In addition, the report said bookings have jumped over 50% since the pause in tariffs. HSBC said this suggests a strong early start to peak shipping period.
