Global Crossing Airlines establishes UrbanX to pioneer UAM in Florida

Operators of Miami-based airline GlobalX, Global Crossing Airlines, have announced the creation of a wholly-owned subsidiary to pioneer the integration of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) in South Florida.

UrbanX will be led by president and CEO Lucy Morillo, described as an ‘attorney, community leader and serial entrepreneur with decades of executive experience in the business, private equity and non-profit sectors’. She is also a member of the Florida Department of Transportation, Advanced Air Mobility Advisory Committee and Eve’s Air Mobility Advisory Board.

Assisted by GlobalX’s expertise, Morillo intends to operate Urban X under a social enterprise business model, working in conjunction with local benefits to bring the benefits of AAM to the surrounding communities. “In coordination with Miami-Dade County and other local stakeholders, we will forge meaningful collaborations through a public-private partnership,” she elaborated.

In 2022, GlobalX signed a letter of intent to purchase 200 Eve eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) craft, with the first due for delivery in 2026.
