British aerospace components supplier GKN Aerospace has opened a new $55 million, 150,000 square-foot facility in San Diego, California, the company said on December 17, 2024.

The facility will offer enhanced support for both next-generation engine components and legacy systems, including GE LEAP and Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan (GTF) models.

The company said the investment will increase its capacity and strengthen its global repair network.

“This significant investment brings the latest automated manufacturing brings the latest automated manufacturing technologies to our business, while emphasising our commitment to our customers in North America and helping to meet the growing demand for MRO in the region,” said GKN Aerospace president of engine systems Joakim Andersson.

The facility is adjacent to GKN Aerospace's existing engines site in San Diego and effectively doubles its MRO capacity in the region, now supporting over 400 customers for both civil and military aero-engines.
