Garuda Indonesia has revamped its flight schedule to Australia to provide passengers with more convenient timings and flexible schedule to plan their trips. The changed flight schedule will be effective on routes from Melbourne and Sydney to Jakarta and Bali starting in April 2023.
This move by Garuda Indonesia comes in the wake of Qantas announcing a new route between Melbourne and Jakarta.
Garuda Indonesia’s new schedule will feature additional flights spread across the week, making it easier for customers to find a flight that fits their schedule.
Flights between Melbourne and Denpasar will operate every Friday and Saturday from early April, with additional flights on Monday starting from July 3, 2023. Flights between Sydney and Jakarta will operate every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, with additional flights on Monday starting from July 3rd.
Australia and Indonesia have seen a heavy flow of traffic with both tourists and business travellers, in 2019, some 104,000 passengers travelled two-way on the route with 52% travelling non-stop, according to Sabre data.
Meanwhile, Qantas flight is direct competition for Garuda Indonesia in the Melbourne-Jakarta market. The Garuda- Indonesian airline currently offers two flights per week using A330-300s.
Qantas recently announced a new route between Melbourne and Jakarta, its third new international route from Melbourne after Delhi and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Qantas already serves Jakarta from Sydney, and the new flights from Melbourne will increase capacity by 6,600 seats every month.
