Gambia Bird, the new airline for West Africa, will take flight from October 15 with weekly flights from Banjul to London Gatwick and Barcelona; and Freetown to London Gatwick – the latter, along with all Freetown routes, is pending governmental approval. The airline also plans services from Banjul to Dakar four times a week, to Freetown twice a week, Monrovia twice a week), Lagos twice a week, and once a week to Conakry and Accra.
Germania Express will provide two Airbus A319s on an ACMI basis. The first aircraft—which features 12 business and 126 economy class seats—arrived in BJL Sept. 14. The second aircraft is scheduled to arrive in December.
CCO Karsten Balke expects good demand for the new services: “We expect good market opportunities, offering safe service. There are not many flight connections within Africa and several carriers face safety issues.”
The carrier is in talks with Brussels Airlines and other airlines on cooperation agreements in terms of maintenance for example.
