FUEL COSTS US AIRLINES 9% MORE IN AUGUST

In August airlines in the US paid 9% more per gallon for fuel compared to the same period in 2009, according to the US Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

Scheduled carriers paid an average of $2.22 per gallon in August this year compared to $2.02 in August 2009.

So far this year, airlines are paying 22.5% more per gallon for fuel than in the first 8 months of 2009. In 2000, airlines paid an average of 80 cents per gallon.
