JetBlue Airways has reported its fourth-quarter profit declined from last year, despite a rise in sales, as expenses increased year-over-year.
Fourth-quarter net income fell to $9 million or $0.03 per share from $11 million or $0.04 per share in the prior year. Analysts has expected slightly higher than that, with $0.06 earnings per share.
Total operating revenues were 13.1% to $940 million from $833 million in the prior-year quarter, down on estimates of $960.78 million. According to the company, severe weather in the Northeast reduced revenue by an estimated $30 million.
Revenue passenger miles were up by 10.1%, capacity rose by 6.8% and load factor also increased 2.5 points to 81.9%.
In fiscal 2010, net income increased to $97 million or $0.31 per share from $61 million or $0.21 per share in the previous year. Full-year revenues increased to $3.78 billion from $3.29 billion.
