KNDS, maker of Germany’s Leopard 2 A8 battle tank, has named former Airbus CEO Tom Enders as its new group chairman, effective November 3, 2025.

In a statement, KNDS said that Enders brings a wealth of both civil and defence experience to the role.

Previously, Enders was CEO of Airbus’s commercial aircraft division from 2005 to 2019, and co-CEO of Airbus's European Aeronautic Defence and Space (EADS) company from 2005 to 2007.

Before joining the aerospace industry, Enders held various policy and research roles, including positions at the German Ministry of Defence and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London.

Enders said he is pleased to be joining KNDS at an “exciting moment” in the company’s journey.

“As Europe strengthens its defence capabilities, KNDS is uniquely positioned to play a leading role,” he said.

“I look forward to working with the board and leadership team to build a strong, innovative, and competitive European defence company.”
