Flybe to sell off slots

It is widely reported that Flybe is going to be selling off runway slots at London’s Gatwick airport to raise funds. The potential sell-off of 25 take-off and landing times, could raise up to £20m. Shares in Flybe soared more than 20% on hopes a deal will be found. The airline said it was talking to various parties reported to include easyJet.
As you may have seen in Airline Economics Issue 13, Flybe needs to act and getting out of Gatwick would be a great move for the regional but it should include Luton slots in the sale too and get the process over with. Flybe said: ‘Discussions are ongoing and there can be no certainty as to whether any transaction will be forthcoming.’
