Flybe, Europe's largest regional airline and the UK's leading domestic carrier, has moved quickly to ensure that passengers still have plenty of options following bmi Regional's news that it will suspend services on the key Aberdeen to Birmingham route effective October 30th. Flybe is already the largest scheduled airline both at Aberdeen and Birmingham airports - has scheduled an extra four flights a week to and from the two cities.
The flights have been added to Flybe's existing schedule on Mondays and Fridays, departing Birmingham 1150, arriving Aberdeen 1320: and departing Aberdeen 1345, arriving Birmingham 1520. This will bring the total number of flights that Flybe operates on this key route to 36 every week that includes three return flights every weekday.
Mike Rutter, Flybe's chief commercial officer says: "Since taking over this important route following our acquisition of BA Connect in 2007, the number of passengers choosing to fly with us has increased by 33%,” he says. “And we've had a particularly good summer with passenger numbers up 6% over the May-August period last year. We hope that today's announcement will serve to reinforce the message that the UK's Number One Domestic airline remains committed to growing its services between Aberdeen and Birmingham so that even more passengers can enjoy Flybe's efficient and friendly service - and at a price which also provides outstanding value."
Flybe is holding a reduced price seat sale to get those that flew bmi to back the new service.
