Finnair's January 2024 passenger traffic has increased 0.4% over January 2023 to 819,800 passengers for the month. Passenger numbers were up YoY in January by 3.4% in Europe and 0.6% in Asia. North Atlantic passenger figures were down 4% while Middle East were also down 2.7%.
Overall capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) increased by 1.3%. Capacity in Asia saw a 13.1% YoY increase, which was largely due to the additional capacity to Japan and South Korea. North Atlantic capacity was down by 5.8% and Europe was up 5.9%. With the Israel-Gaza conflict and the ensuing flight cancellations to Israel, Middle-East capacity saw a 7.3% decline.
Revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) was up 1.3% to 3.05bn kilometres in January 2024 compared to January 2023. Asia RPKs were up 3% and up in Europe by 2.2%. RPKs decreased in North Atlantic by 3.7% and in Middle East by 0.9%.
Finnair passenger load factor (PLF) declined by three percentage points to 69.2% in January 2024 YoY. PLF declined in Asia by 6.7% and in Europe by 2.5%. PLF was up YoY in North Atlantic by 1.5% and in the Middle East by 5.1%.
Total cargo tonnes increased by 17.5% YoY in January 2024 due to increased Asian and European capacity. Revenue cargo tonne kilometres increased by 16.3%.
