Finnair's passenger numbers were up 9.4% in June 2024, compared to the year prior.
Its North Atlantic, European, and Asian passenger numbers were up 16.1%, 12%, and 6.1% respectively. However, its Middle East traffic was down 8.8%. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have continued through the year. Additionally, its domestic traffic was flat at a slight decrease of 0.7%.
The overall capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK), increased in June by 9.2% over the year prior as additional narrowbody capacity was deployed by Finnair after the wet leases outs to British Airways ended in March 2024. If wet lease outs are included, capacity increased by 11.2% due to its cooperation with Qantas.
Its revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) increased 8.2% compared to the same period last year. In addition, its passenger load factor declined by 0.7 percentage point to 80%.
Its total cargo tonnes increased by 6.9% in June 2024 over the previous year. This was driven by growth in all traffic areas exclusive of domestic traffic. Revenue cargo tonne kilometres were also up 6.6%.
