Finnair cancels flights due to pilot strike

Finnair has cancelled approximately 300 flights, impacting around 33,000 of its customers. The cancellations come as pilots - represented by the Finnish Air Line Pilots' Association - announced a strike taking place on December 9 and 13 this year.

The airline said that some individual flights might be impacted by the strike.

“It is disappointing that the Finnish Air Line Pilots' Association has chosen to strike rather than negotiate,” said Finnair chief operating officer Jaako Schildt. “This unfortunately disrupts the travel plans of thousands of our customers during the pre-Christmas season. We are doing everything we can to serve our customers well even in this difficult situation and will offer alternative flights to as many customers as possible.”

The airline said that due to the large number of customers that need to be rerouted, it will not be possible to offer everyone a rerouting close to their original booking. The carrier apologised for the situation and said it will do its “utmost” to remedy any disruptions to customers' travel plans.
