Finnair carried 878,600 passengers in January 2025, up 6.6% compared to the same month a year prior.
“Passenger numbers saw good growth in Asian, North Atlantic, and European traffic but declined in Middle East traffic,” said the airline in a statement.
Passenger numbers were up 16.4%, 16.1%, and 8% in North Atlantic, Asia, and Europe, respectively. Middle East passenger numbers were down 11.5% in the month.
The airline further noted that revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs) had “increased significantly” in Asian and North Atlantic traffic during the month. Overall RPKs were up 9.3%. Asia RPKs were up 17.4%, while North Atlantic was up 16.9%. Europe RPKs were up 5.7%, while Middle East was down 12%.
Capacity was up 2.9% overall, driven by Europe and North Atlantic capacity up 11.1% and 9.1%, respectively, offset by Asia and Middle East down 2.4% and 16.3%, respectively.
Load factor for the month averaged at 73.5%, up 4.3 percentage points. Asian traffic load factor was up 13.9 percentage points to 82.4%; North Atlantic was up 4.8 percentage points to 72.1%; and Middle East was up four percentage points to 83.5%. Europe was down 3.4 percentage points to 65.6%.
Total cargo tonnes decreased by 9.4%, driven by a decline in Asia and Middle Eastern cargo traffic. Cargo RPKs were down 10.7%.
