Two F16 fighter jets were scrambled yesterday when air traffic controllers at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam were unable to make contact with the crew onboard a Vueling A320 aircraft. The jets were scrambled to establish visual contact with the crew which is standard procedure when radio communication is lost – the Dutch fighter jets then escorted the aircraft to the ground where is taxied to a remote corner of Schiphol airport and was immediately surrounded by security personnel and several ambulances. A bus later arrived to ferry the passengers to the airport.
