Ongoing production problems at Boeing’s South Carolina 787 Dreamliner factory has led the Federal Aviation Administration to review quality control issues at the facility, going back over a decade, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The WSJ reports cites an internal government memo. As a result of "non-conforming" sections of the rear fuselage, the FAA review is considering mandating enhanced or accelerated inspections that could cover up to 1,000 Dreamliners delivered since 2011, according to the WSJ report.
Boeing maintains that a defect due to the quality lapse does not pose an immediate safety threat to Dreamliners. But the ongoing quality control issues, combined with another recently discovered assembly line defect prompted Boeing to tell airlines to ground eight 787s for immediate repairs.
