The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is debating whether to revise a decision to exempt cargo airlines from new rules to prevent pilot fatigue. The reason for the decision was because the FAA says it made "errors" in cost calculations - some $214 million for the cargo industry over a decade – used to justify the exemption.
The FAA said, "These errors are of sufficient amount that the FAA believes that it is prudent to review the portion of its cost-benefit analysis related to all-cargo operations and allow interested parties an opportunity to comment on that analysis."
The department will issue a new evaluation of the costs, which are likely to be greater, not less, according to an article in The Associated Press.
