FAA awards $4.5 million sustainability grant to APiJET's flight route optimisation technology
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has selected APiJET to receive a $4.5 million grant to enhance its flight route optimisation technology Digital Winglets. The 'fuelling aviation's sustainable transition' (FAST) grant is an FAA initiative focussed on developing, demonstrating, or applying low-emission aviation technology to boost sustainability goals. ""This significant grant will enable APiJET to make our technology available to more aircraft types helping airlines achieve substantial fuel costs savings while contributing to the aviation industry's broader sustainability goals,"" commented APiJET CEO Rob Green. ""As airlines continue to face mounting pressure to reduce their environmental footprint, our technology provides a crucial solution by optimising flight paths in real time, resulting in substantial fuel burn and emissions reductions."" As the industry looks to meet sustainability targets and mandates, Green believes the technology will play a ""crucial"" role in facilitating these goals while ""meeting financial targets"". Along with expanding aircraft type coverage for the technology, the company also use the grant to further refine aircraft performance and airframe degradation models to enhance fuel savings and emissions reductions.
