EXPEDIA TO SELL AMERICAN AIRLINES TICKETS

Expedia has confirmed it will begin selling tickets for American Airlines after the pair resolved a long-running dispute over how the airline’s tickets are sold. In January, American Airlines cut ties with Orbitz.com when Orbitz refused to use Direct Connect, a sales system that would give the airline more control over sales of its ancillary services. As a direct result of this dispute, Expedia dropped American Airlines offerings from its website.

In a joint statement, Expedia and American Airlines said: “Expedia said it plans to access American’s fares, schedules, and customized travel products and services via American’s Direct Connect link by using aggregation technology provided by a global distribution system.”

American Airlines, however, has still not resolved a similar argument with ticket seller, the Sabre Group. The two companies remain in talks.
