EVA Air pilots call off upcoming strikes

Taiwanese airline EVA Airways has confirmed that anticipated industrial action during the Lunar New Year will not go ahead after a deal was reached with the Taoyuan Union of Pilots (TUP).

“Both parties eventually reached a consensus to create a win-win situation that protects the rights and interests of passengers and reaches labor harmony” explained the airline in a statement, noting that it has “maintained an open attitude and continued to propose feasible solutions”.

The airline extends its appreciation to the Executive Yuan, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Transportation, the Civil Aviation Administration, and the Department of Labor in Taoyuan City for their coordination in helping conclude negotiations.

TUP members had previously voted to go on strike after accusing EVA of not raising salaries enough and employing too many foreign pilots, reported Reuters.
