European airlines order GE Aerospace engines
British Airways has committed to purchasing GENx engines to power six new 787 Dreamliners. It marks the introduction of the engine to its fleet. ""Brining the GENx into [British Airways'] 787 fleet represents another important milestone in our relationship,"" said GE Aerospace president and CEO commercial engines and services Russell Stokes. British Airways had been the launch customer for the GE90 engine. ""The GENx engine is performing well with millions of reliable flight hours under wing and proven fuel efficiency and economics,"" said International Airlines Group (IAG) - British Airways' parent company - in a statement. ""This selection by IAG and British Airways affirms the confidence we have in the GENx engine and 787 aircraft combination."" In addition, GE Aerospace signed an agreement with Turkish Airlines for eight GE90-110B engines to power four Turkish Cargo 777 freighters. Turkish Airlines chief investment and strategy officer Levent Konukcu commented: ""The addition of GE90-110B engines will enhance the efficiency of our cargo fleet, reinforcing our position as one of the top three air cargo carriers globally."" The orders were made at this year's Farnborough International Airshow.
