EU make it up as they go along as LOT wins temporary EU approval for state aid

Polish flag carrier LOT Polish Airlines has today won temporary European Union backing for a rescue loan of 400 million zloty ($123.6 million) from the polish state. The European Commission today said it approved the aid pending a decision on the restructuring plan, which Poland has to submit by 20th June 2013. Are you confused about how the rules on state aid are implemented? Next up is Cyprus Airways and about seven other airlines who should now get the same treatment – Europe continues to be a total mess when it comes to airlines and those that should fail being propped up by governments. This is bad news for the sector.
