Etihad Airways is set to double its routes to the African continent over the next year. The airline launched three new African routes in the past two months, along with adding more destinations and frequencies to its services.
Etihad serves four African destinations at present: Johannesburg, South Africa; Cairo, Egypt; Mahe, Seychelles; and Casablanca, Morocco. On December 15, the airline will resume flights to the Kenyan capital Nairobi. In addition, the UAE carrier will launch new routes to Tunis, Tunisia; Algiers, Alegria; and Al Alamein, Egypt.
“Currently, we serve four cities with 39 frequencies a week,” said Etihad chief revenue and commercial officer Arik De. “By next summer, this will increase to 50 frequencies a week to six cities, and by this time next year, we will reach 57 frequencies a week to eight cities.”
De added that the airline will continue to launch at least 10 new global destinations each year as we grow towards 2030. “This will include new cities in Africa, and our goal is to make all these flights daily,” he said.
The airline said it is enhancing its African connectivity through codeshare and interline partnerships with African airlines such as Airlink South Africa, Air Seychelles, Royal Air Maroc, and EgyptAir.
