Ethiopian suspends aircraft auction due to low turnout

Ethiopian Airlines, which has been trying to auction a Trans-Saharan Airlines aircraft (B725-256) at a threshold bid price of 80,000 Br, requested the High Court postpone the sale for the third time, after only seven bidders showed up at the auction last Wednesday. The auction was cancelled in November 2011, when only one bidder appeared before the Federal Court’s Judgement Execution Division.
After default notices, Ethiopian filed a civil suit against Trans-Saharan back in 2007for breach of contract. The Federal High Court ruled against the airline in March 2008 in absentia.
In its decomposed state – the aircraft as no seats inside and a faded outer body - it is unlikely it will fly again, which the paucity of bidders attests.
