Ethiopian launches new route to Atlanta

Ethiopian Airlines recently launched a new route connecting Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) to Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) marking the airline’s fifth US destination. Given take-off restrictions at Bole, the airline will operate its Atlanta-bound service with a stopover at Dublin International Airport (DUB).

The airline has deployed its 315 seat Boeing 787-9 on the four-weekly route.

Ethiopian operates scheduled flights to Chicago, Newark, New York, and Washington, DC.

Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew was in Atlanta for the occasion and noted his plans to meet with Delta Air Lines to discuss partnerships, likely a codeshare agreement. The Atlanta airport has been searching for new international routes, relaunching its incentive program with a budget of $1.2 million in incentives to attract carriers from Africa, South Asia, and South America.

Balram Bheodar, General Manager, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport said: "As the world’s busiest and most efficient airport, our mission is to deliver excellence while connecting our community to the world. This new partnership with Ethiopian Airlines expands that connectivity and access for our passengers and further solidifies our position as an industry leader. We are thrilled to welcome Ethiopian Airlines to ATL.
