Ethiopian Airlines is planning to start a new route connecting Africa to Pakistan. The Addis Ababa-Karachi route will commence from March 26, 2022.
The 4.5-hour direct flight between Ethiopia and Karachi will enable the two countries to strengthen their already-deep socio-economic relations. The airline has not yet given the details of the type of aircraft to be operated on this route, however considering the 4.5 hours flight it is likely that the airline will operate its long-haul aircraft.
Ethiopian Airlines is awaiting the delivery of four Airbus A350-1000s and an additional Airbus A350-900.
Jemal Beker Abdula, Ethiopian ambassador to Pakistan, said: “The direct service between Karachi and Addis Ababa will increase the trade volume between Ethiopia and Pakistan from $80 million to $200 million. Besides, the direct flight will be attractive for the leisure market, as Ethiopia has been growing its importance as a favoured Islamic tourist destination.”
Ethiopian Airlines' direct service to Addis Ababa is being regarded as a fundamental asset for Pakistan to increase its export volumes to Africa and the entire world with Ethiopian airlines as one of the largest cargo operators in Africa.
