Ethiopian Airlines has signed an agreement with GE Aerospace, selecting the latter's GEnx-1B engines to power its new 787-9 aircraft. The deal increases the airline's GEnx-powered fleet from 19 to 30 aircraft.

In addition, the airline reaffirmed its previous order for GE9X engines to power its 777-9 aircraft in a newly signed agreement, with it including options for six additional aircraft powered by the engines.

The two deals include a service agreement to cover the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of the GEnx and GE9X engines.

“These agreements for GE9X and GEnx engines reflect our commitment to fleet modernisation, operational efficiency, and sustainability as we continue to connect Africa to the world," said Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew.
