Envoy Air to close New York base

Envoy Air, which flies as American Eagle for parent American Airlines, plans to close its base in New York, and fly out of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport only.

In an letter to employees, Envoy CEO Pedro Fábregas said American wants Envoy to stop flying its Bombardier CRJ700s out of New York LaGuardia and JFK by the end of the year.

Envoy’s Embraer E140 and E145 aircraft stationed in New York will be transferred to Trans States Airline beginning in May.

“As a result of these changes, Envoy will no longer maintain a base in New York for pilots, flight attendants or mechanics by the end of 2015,” Fábregas said in the letter. “We regret the impact this will have on our New York-based employees and are working now to develop a timeline for this transition. We hope to accommodate as many of our impacted employees as possible at other locations in the system.”
