Emirates has showcased one its newly retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft on a one-off flight to mark its 25th year of services to Uganda.
On Friday (October 17), Emirates flew a four-class retrofitted 777 to Entebbe in central Uganda, followed by a static tour to demonstrate the upgrades to the aircraft, which was attended by Ugandan state officials.
The 777 that Emirates flew to Entebbe is the product of a $5bn retrofit programme that is being carried out entirely in-house by Emirates Engineering.
Under the refit programme, which been ongoing since November 2022, a total of 219 777s and A380s will undergo nose-to-tail upgrades.
The refurbished four-class 777 offers 260 economy seats, 24 premium economy seats, 38 business class seats in 1-2-1 configuration, and eight first class suites.
To date, 72 aircraft have been retrofitted, including 37 Boeing 777s and 36 Airbus A380s.
As the programme continues to scale into 2026 and beyond, Emirates said that all destinations in its network will be served by retrofitted aircraft.
Last month, Emirates named Cape Town and Johannesburg as the first destinations in Africa to be served by retrofitted 777 aircraft.
The launch of the retrofitted aircraft also coincided with the launch of Emirates’ premium economy cabin class in South Africa.
