Emirates scales up its China, Australia and London capacity to meet demand

Emirates is all set to ramp up its China operations ahead of new lunar Year and strong travel demand, boosting connectivity to its gateways: Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing, as the country reopens its borders and eases its COVID-related entry restrictions. The airline will resume its service on the Shanghai route from starting with two weekly flights operated by an Airbus A380 aircraft from January, 20 2023. This service will ramp up in frequency to four weekly flights operated by a three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from 02 February 2023.

Emirates will further boost its Dubai-Shanghai route from March 1 2023 with a daily non-stop service.

This will bring the airline’s operations in the market up to 21 weekly flights, providing increased choice and flexibility for both business and leisure travellers, and contributing to China’s tourism recovery.

Along with ramping the China operations, Emirates will restore its Australia operations with an additional daily service to Brisbane, from June 1, 2023 on B777-300ER.

With this additional service, Emirates will resume its pre-pandemic capacity to Brisbane with more than quarter of a million seats per year both ways.

Barry Brown, Divisional Vice President Australasia at Emirates, said: “Our second daily service to Brisbane begins as we proudly celebrate 20 years of flying to the sunshine state. The additional service combined with our daily A380 to Brisbane means Emirates will offer almost 12,000 seats to and from Brisbane every week.

The expansion was secured under the $200 million joint State Government and industry Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, which was created to boost Queensland’s tourism economy.  With the additional frequency starting in Brisbane Emirates will operate 49 weekly flights to Australia.

Going ahead, Emirates is also planning to scale up its A380 operations with resumption of services to Glasgow from March 26, 2023, Nice from June and Birmingham from July 2023 along with second daily service to Stansted starting May 2023.

With the return of the second daily flight to Stansted, Emirates will ramp up its operations to London with 11 daily flights, including six times daily to London Heathrow and three times daily to Gatwick. The airline continues to expand its global network and increase capacity in line with growing travel demand.
