Embraer announces opening of engineering research centre partnership

In what they described as an "unprecedented initiative", Embraer, Brazil's Aeronautical Technological Institute (ITA) and the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (FAPESP) have opened an Engineering Research Center.

The centre has been backed by a roughly $10 million investment to get it started in its mission to "find innovative technological solutions that will enhance the sustainability and competitiveness of the global innovation ecosystem".

Airframe manufacturer Embraer said the opening event for the centre was held at ITA and was attended by the governor of the State of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas and by the director of the department of aerospace science and technology, Lieutenant General Maurício Augusto Silveira de Medeiros, as well as by ITA an FAPESP officials.

"It is an immense satisfaction to accompany the beginning of the activities of the Engineering Research Center that brings together great talents in conducting applied research of high value to society," said Luís Carlos Affonso, Embraer's vice-president of engineering and technology.
