EHang has opened Japan’s fist urban air mobility (UAM) centre in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefucture, which it describes as ‘a milestone in Japan’s advanced air mobility industry’.
The facility will serve as a demonstration flight site, ground infrastructure and maintenance base for EHang’s uncrewed electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in the region. Featuring hangars with capacity for around 25 of EHang’s two-seat, EH216-S craft, it is the result of a collaboration between EHang and AirX, a Japanese air mobility digital platform company.
“Through the establishment of this UAM Centre, our goal is to showcase air mobility flight experiences to the public,” commented Tezuka Kiwamu, founder and CEO of AirX, who confirmed that AirX intend to offer aerial sightseeing opportunities with the Eh216-S from the location in the future. To date, the platform has conducted flights in 12 Japanese cities to date.
Huazhi Hu, founder, chairman and CEO of EHang, added: “This is a key milestone in UAM, bringing us one step closer to introducing a new era of transportation to the public.”
