Egyptair is planning to relaunch services to Los Angeles after a 25-year hiatus, expanding its transatlantic routes from Cairo International Airport. The airline plans to launch the Los Angeles route starting October 2023, pending approval.
The airline has already applied to the US Department of Transportation for approval,
Egyptair currently operates flights to four North American destinations, Newark, New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in the United States, and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) having connected Cairo with North America since 1986and is the only direct year-round air link between Egypt and North America.
The carrier last served Los Angeles 24 years ago and suspended services soon after the tragic crash of Egyptair Flight 990 on October 31, 1999.
Egyptyair plans to deploy its B787-9 Dreamliner fleet on the new route offering 309 seats across two classes, 30 in business class and 279 in economy.
In September, Egyptair is planning to resume flights Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) after a three-year COVID-19 induced hiatus.
Also launching in September, Egyptair will offer direct charter flights between Cairo and São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) on behalf of MasterFlights.
