Ecuador - 7.8-Magnitude Earthquake

On the evening of April 16, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Musine, Ecuador, taking the lives of 668 people, injuring more than 27,700, damaging 29,600 houses, and displacing 80,000 people from their homes. More than 1,000 aftershocks were registered in the two weeks following the main shock. A state of emergency was declared across the country, and the international community mobilized quickly to respond to the crisis. In cooperation with Atlas Air, Avianca, JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN), and LIFT, Airlink worked with 11 nonprofit organizations to send more than 50 emergency personnel and 170,000 pounds of emergency supplies, totaling nearly $4,000,000 in goods delivered and more than $245,000 in air lift donated.
