Shortly after British Airways (BA) launched its own route to the Georgian city, easyJet has launched its brand new direct route to Tbilisi on September 18, 2024. It marks the first time the airline has launched flights to the country.
easyJet's flight will carry passengers from Luton twice a week, commencing April 1, 2025. It also launched new routes to the city from Geneva and Milan Malpensa.
"We are delighted announce a new route to a brand-new destination on our network today, and to be providing direct connectivity between the UK and Tbilisi in Georgia for the first time from next summer," said easyJet UK country manager Ali Gayward.
Tony Anderson, an ex-marketing director at easyJet and part of the easyGroup said on a LinkedIn post that the route launch "came as a wake-up call to those who believed the geographical expansion of European boundaries low-cost aviation had reached its zenith. The fact that [BA] have simultaneously announced their own service from Heathrow testifies to the growth potential of this hitherto largely untapped market."
The airline recently based an additional A320 aircraft at its Luton base, bringing its Luton fleet now comprises 25 A320 family aircraft.
