easyJet has inaugurated its newest UK base at Birmingham airport, its first in over a decade, offering in a ‘new era for expansion’ for this summer’s fastest-growing UK airline.
The carrier is set to operate its biggest ever UK programme this summer, with 10% more seats on sale to and from the UK bolstered by the addition of four new aircraft to its fleet in 2024.
“We see much untapped potential at the airport providing the opportunity to grow further in future years,” said easyJet CEO Johan Lundgren, with a high number of flights to and from Birmingham ‘set to carry one of the highest proportions of easyJet holidays’ customers on the network’.
With an estimated 83% of people in England and Wales living within a two hour drive of Birmingham airport, the new base ‘will therefore enable easyJet to unlock the opportunity to capture the strong demand for leisure travel and the package holiday market,’ notes the airline.
