EasyJet and Jet2 Airways have airport purchased slots previously owned held by collapsed carrier Thomas Cook at Birmingham, London Stansted and Manchester airports.
Slots at London Gatwick and Bristol were bought by EasyJet for £36 million, these included 12 summer take-off and landing slots at Gatwick and eight winter slot pairs.
It also bought six summer slot pairs and one winter slot pair at Bristol, expanding the airline's presence at each airport.
Meanwhile, Jet2 purchased slots at Manchester, Birmingham and Stansted airports for an undisclosed amount.
Jet 2 chief executive Steve Heapy says the slots will enable the airline to continue expansion.
He said: "We have been adding more flights and aircraft, resulting in increased capacity, at each of these bases for many years.
"Today's announcement is the latest demonstration of our commitment to providing holidaymakers with more choice and flexibility when it comes to flying to sun, city and ski destinations with our award-winning airline."
Thomas Cook's UK business and airline collapsed in September, leaving 150,000 passengers stranded in destinations across the world. What followed was a two-week operation, which was the biggest-ever peacetime repatriation, for the stranded passengers.
