Dublin Airport reported a record 2.83 million passengers in April, an increase of 18% year-on-year, and taking the hub to almost 9.5 million passengers in 2023.
Over 250,000 people flew via Cork Airport, a 30% increase and enough to prompt the airport's management to revise its yearly forecast up to 2.6 million passengers, which would take it back to pre-Covid traffic.
The April figures were buoyed by a very busy Easter period which saw record numbers travelling through Dublin Airport. Once again it was a very smooth month for our security operation, with 96% of passengers safely through screening in 20 minutes or less," said Kenny Jacobs, chief executive of the Dublin Airport Authority, which runs Cork and Dublin airports.
"The busiest day of the month at Dublin Airport came on Friday May 28 as thousands availed of the start of the long Bank Holiday weekend to make a trip overseas, with around 50,000 passengers departing that day," Jacobs said, adding that a busy May was expected due to Dublin's hosting of Europe's club rugby finals and the restart of summer routes from Cork to Frankfurt and Dubrovnik.
