Dubai to Europe air cargo tonnages surge amid global demand stability
Air cargo tonnages from Dubai to Europe have surged in week 10, standing at three times their level compared to the same period last year, up 205%, according to recent analysis from WorldACD Market Data. This surge represents a 7% increase from the previous week, highlighting a sustained trend with key Asia-Europe sea hubs, such as Dubai, Colombo and Bangkok, seeing exceptionally higher air cargo demand since the start of the year. Key factors contributing to this surge include disruptions in Asia-Europe container shipping, particularly due to recent attacks on vessels in the Red Sea. Meanwhile, Bangkok-Europe demand remains robust, up by over 30% compared to the previous year. However, Colombo-Europe demand is showing signs of softening, with a decline from the previous weeks' growth rates. Globally, total worldwide tonnages have stabilized, with average rates seeing a slight increase to $2.32 per kilo. The rebound in demand from the Asia Pacific region has been notable, driving a 28% increase in tonnages compared to the previous two weeks. Despite challenges, air cargo capacity remains significantly higher than last year, particularly from regions like Asia Pacific and Central & South America, indicating a positive outlook for the industry.
