It’s been a good show for both Boeing and Airbus in Dubai this year, with both manufacturers announcing large orders. Despite Boeing’s bumper win for 50 777s from Emirates, most of the press attention focused on Airbus’ spat with Qatar Airways CEO Al Baker and subsequent massive order for A320neos and more A380s.
But the quiet winner of the show seems to have been Pratt & Whitney, which won two big orders for its PW1100G-JM engines for the A320neo aircraft from Qatar Airways and Alafco.
John Leahy has commented that Airbus will smash its target to sell 1,500 A320neos by the end of the year – orders now stand at 1,268 firm orders.
No 737Max orders announced so far and it now seems unlikely, however don’t be fooled, Boeing has a number of irons in the fire for the Max and we fully expect an announcement soon. Watch this space.
