Airport Handling, a majority-owned subsidiary of global air and travel services provider dnata, is to commence operations at Rome Fiumicino Airport. As part of this agreement, Airport Handling has already committed over €20 million ($18.29 million) of investment in ground support equipment, including the provision of electric vehicles.

Airport Handling’s appointment comes after the service provider was awarded a seven year ground handling license by Aeroporti di Roma. It plans to launch operations in the Italian capital in the second quarter of 2024, having recruited a local senior management team, and is looking to employ over 1,8000 personnel at the location.

“We are proud to have secured [an] operating license at another leading Italian airport as a result of a highly competitive tender process,” explained CEO of airport handling, Alberto Morosi. ”Expanding into Rome Fiumicino is another significant milestone that aligns with our growth strategy and underlines our commitment to consistently enhancing our operations”.

Airport Handling’s majority stakeholder dnata currently operates at over 120 airports worldwide. It also provides catering and retail services at all major Italian airports, including Rome Fiumicino. Airport Handling itself also handles more than 22 million passengers and 82,00 flights a year at two Milan airports, Malpensa and Linate.
