DISPUTE BETWEEN ORBITZ WORLDWIDE AND AMERICAN HITS SHARE PRICE

Shares in Orbitz Worldwide has fallen sharply since American Airlines said it would stop providing fare data to the online travel agency and blocked it from selling tickets after December 1 unless a new contract is reached. Until then however customers can continue to buy airline tickets via Orbitz.

Orbitz disclosed in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing the plan by American to possibly end their agreement three years early. It wants the online travel agency to obtain flight and fare information directly from it, instead of through a global distribution system but the airline is the only one in the US calling for this measure, for now.
