Lufthansa Group airline Discover Airlines has commenced operations with the AERQ ARENA inseat system installed aboard one of its A320 aircraft, which it will use to test ‘various use cases’ for medium-haul flights over the next three years. It is the first airline to employ the new product.
The open IT platform AREANA is supported by cloud-based infrastructure and ‘boasts digital innovations throughout the travel journey and facilitates greater passenger engagement onboard the aircraft,’ able to connect via a personal electronic device.
Following the issuance of a supplemental type certificate (STC) for the AREANA seat system installation by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), co-managing director at AERQ Arnd Kikker is “very excited that AERENA now takes off and an airline as well as passengers get to experience what [the] platform has to offer”.
“The insights we gather during the test phase will make an important contribution to the further development of the inflight entertainment experience for the entire Lufthansa Group,” explained Maximilian Meintgens, director of product and marketing at Discover Airlines.
