Aviation analytics specialist Cirium has published its 2023 On-Time Performance Review, recognising the high standards of operating excellence achieved by airlines across the world, with Delta Air Lines receiving its third consecutive Cirium Platinum Award.
Additionally, Colombian flag carrier Avianca Airlines was named as the most punctual airline worldwide, with 85.73% of some 213,039 total flights or arriving within 15 minutes of its scheduled slot. Brazil’s Azul Airlines was the second most on-time carrier worldwide, followed by Qatar Airways, with scores of 85.51% and 85.11% respectively.
The North American carrier also claimed the accolade of most on-time airline in North America, with CEO Jeremy Bowen describing Delta’s “relentless pursuit of efficiency and punctuality” as “commendable as we venture into 2024, a year brimming with promise for the aviation sector”. Other regional winners included ANA for Asia Pacific, Oman Air for the Middle East and Africa, Copa in Latin America, and Iberia Express in Europe.
North America’s Minneapolis-St.Paul International Airport in Minnesota took the title of the top performing global airport of 2023, with 84.44% of 289,817 flights departing on time. It was very closely followed by India’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (with a score of 84.42%) and Kempegowda International Airport (84.08%).
Now in its 15th year, Cirium’s On-Time Performance Review encompasses data from airlines, airports, global distribution systems, civil aviation authorities and other sources.
